History

Located just south of the Massachusetts border, and east of the Connecticut River, Enfield boasts a colorful past. Enfield was named and incorporated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1683 and annexed to Connecticut in 1749. The town is noted for its early Shaker Community, a tremendous carpet mill industry, and an equally impressive gunpowder production industry in the 1800's.
